Focus Tool: Small tools deserve product-level craft
By The Lab
Pomodorii is intentionally small: a focus timer with a retro-console personality. That constraint is the point.
Small tools are often treated as disposable, but they are also where interaction craft becomes easiest to feel. A timer is used repeatedly. Every sound, hover state, theme, and transition either supports the ritual or interrupts it.
Designing for repetition
The product needed to be simple enough to understand instantly and expressive enough to make repeated use feel good. The retro-console direction gave the interface a clear rule set without adding unnecessary complexity.
Sound, theme switching, language support, and PWA behavior all became part of the same product system.
The Lab takeaway
Useful software does not need to be large to be complete. Pomodorii shows how much quality can fit inside a narrow product loop when the details are treated as first-class work.
